American navy pays a surprise visit to the Russian Black Sea shore

The emergence of American-manufactured unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), specifically those developed by Sierra Nevada Corporation, has fundamentally altered the operational environment in the Black Sea. Ukraine is currently utilizing these autonomous platforms to conduct multi-domain operations, including reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and precision strikes against Russian naval assets. This systematic campaign targets not only military vessels but also critical economic infrastructure, such as the shadow fleet tankers and energy platforms repurposed for electronic surveillance. By exploiting the limitations of the Montreux Convention, which restricts warship transit while permitting commercial traffic, Ukraine has successfully initiated a strategy of maritime interdiction. The resulting disruption to oil and grain exports poses a significant threat to Russian fiscal stability, as insurance costs rise and freight availability diminishes. Consequently, the maritime balance of power has shifted, with asymmetric assets effectively challenging conventional naval control.
