Ukraine has initiated the development of a sovereign military satellite communication network under the Stetman project to establish independent orbital infrastructure. Utilizing the Uasat-Nano initiative, the system involves deploying a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites using 5G-based architecture to ensure secure, high-capacity data links. The first launches are scheduled for late 2026, with the fleet projected to reach one hundred and twenty satellites by 2027 to support up to fifty thousand terminals. This infrastructure mitigates reliance on external providers and enhances resilience against electronic warfare by securing the sensor-to-shooter cycle and real-time command coordination. The project represents a structural shift toward space-enabled warfare, providing a redundant, secure backup to existing commercial systems like Starlink. By establishing this capability, Ukraine gains a strategic advantage in battlefield communication density and long-term regional security cooperation.
