Iran sinks own ships amid total command breakdown and confusion
The recent strikes against Iranian government and naval assets have triggered a total breakdown in command and control, leading to a series of catastrophic tactical errors including friendly fire incidents. Iranian forces mistakenly targeted the tanker Skylight, a vessel within the Iranian-Russian shadow fleet carrying sanctioned oil, highlighting a severe loss of situational awareness. While Tehran intended to execute a strategic blockade of the Strait of Hormuz using mines and drone swarms to pressure global energy markets, the resulting disruptions have been largely precautionary rather than the product of a coherent denial strategy. Significant damage to the Jamaran-class frigate and naval infrastructure at Chabahar and Konarak has effectively neutralized Iran’s primary maritime deterrent. Furthermore, the elimination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders in precision strikes has decapitated the regime’s leadership, leaving the military response fragmented and reactive. This lack of inter-branch coordination, as acknowledged by remaining officials, underscores a systemic inability to maintain a structured defense against high-intensity, precision-led operations.
