Russian commanders and drone operators are being executed for killing their own men

The systemic reliance of the Russian Armed Forces on penal recruits, enforced through violent coercion and blocking detachments, has introduced severe structural vulnerabilities into Moscow’s frontline operational logic. By prioritizing raw mass over institutional cohesion, the Russian Ministry of Defense has institutionalized a cycle of internal friction where the primary mechanisms of tactical discipline—field executions and drone-monitored barriers—actively incentivize localized mutinies. Ukrainian forces have systematically exploited this structural fragility by deliberately targeting the command, military police, and specialized drone infrastructure responsible for maintaining this coercive control. Consequently, Russia is increasingly forced to divert critical combat assets and high-value personnel away from offensive operations to police its own deteriorating ranks. Over the long term, this friction degrades the sustainability of Russia's attrition-based strategy, as the apparatus required to suppress internal revolts consumes the very resources intended to sustain the offensive pivot.
