Russian oil economy suffers the hardest single hit in decades

The Russian Federation is facing a severe economic crisis following a series of precision drone strikes targeting its oil infrastructure. Analysts suggest this is the most significant economic downturn since the pandemic, as production was reduced by 400,000 barrels per day this month. Ukrainian operations have systematically targeted refineries such as Novokuybyshevsk and Syzran, the Vysotsk port terminal, and the Tikhoretsk pumping station. These attacks extend to the Volgograd-Tikhoretsk pipeline and offshore drilling platforms in the Caspian Sea. The resulting 40 percent decline in oil exports has widened the first-quarter budget deficit to 59 billion dollars, far exceeding projections. This sustained campaign is effectively neutralizing Russia's ability to profit from rising global oil prices and threatens the long-term stability of its energy sector.
