Russians sacrifice thousands in desperate push to halt Ukrainian advances
In the Lyman sector, Ukraine’s integration of unmanned ground vehicles to neutralize rear command posts and specialized drone operators has disrupted Russia’s localized reconnaissance-strike complex. Deprived of tactical aerial reconnaissance and drone coverage, Russian forces have substituted technical assets with dense infantry counterattacks to secure compromised positions along the Zherebets River. This doctrinal shift has driven unprecedented casualty spikes—surpassing two thousand daily losses—as massed personnel are repeatedly deployed into contested grey zones around Zarichne and Yampil. Consequently, localized frontline stabilization functions as an operational attrition trap, expending vital human capital merely to preserve static positions. By consuming uncommitted reserves to contain a secondary axis rather than preserving combat power, Russian forces severely compromise their operational depth ahead of subsequent Ukrainian offensive phases.
