Ukrainians are making gains as Russia loses its staging ground
The Ukrainian breach across the Mokri Yaly River into the urban staging hub of Komar fundamentally disrupts Russian operational logistics in the southern Donetsk–Dnipropetrovsk border sector. By eliminating the primary forward staging area along the river axis, this maneuver displaces Russian supply echelons seventeen kilometers rearward to Velyka Novosilka, forcing resupply through exposed corridors subject to persistent Ukrainian drone interdiction. Concurrently, the employment of GPS-guided standoff munitions, such as GBU-39 glide bombs, against concentrated infrastructure in Velyka Novosilka systematically degrades Russian command continuity and troop staging capabilities. This operational strain is acutely exacerbated by environmental asymmetry: Ukrainian forces leverage concealed, hardened approaches through forested terrain, whereas Russian logistics rely on open fields increasingly immobilized by seasonal autumn precipitation. Consequently, the loss of Komar neutralizes Russian offensive vectors toward the Vovcha River and effectively eliminates operational prospects for a Russian advance into the Dnipropetrovsk region.
