Shahed drones now weaponize roads to slow and disrupt all movement

The air war over Ukraine is entering a new phase, where the effects of a single drone flight persist long after the explosion fades. Shahed-type drones are being adapted not only to strike targets but also to disrupt movement across key roads and supply routes. By carrying and deploying magnetic anti-vehicle mines, these drones turn entire transport corridors into contested spaces. The mines do not require direct contact to detonate, meaning vehicles can be disabled simply by passing nearby, slowing logistics and troop rotations. Urban streets, railways, and rear-area routes all become high-risk zones, forcing Ukrainian forces to move cautiously and expend resources on clearance. This evolving approach demonstrates how drones are now shaping battlefield conditions as much through indirect disruption as through direct destruction.
