The recurring incursions of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles into NATO and partner airspace have shifted the regional security paradigm from passive observation to active containment. Following significant incidents in Turkey, Moldova, and Romania, Bulgaria has spearheaded a proactive defense posture by concluding a ten-year security agreement with Ukraine. This partnership focuses on joint drone production, demining operations, and the integration of Ukrainian counter-UAS expertise. Additionally, regional cooperation has intensified with Greece deploying Patriot systems and F-16 aircraft to reinforce Bulgarian airspace. These measures address the heightened vulnerability of strategic logistical hubs used for trans-atlantic operations, signaling a decisive rejection of hybrid provocations in the Black Sea region.
