Ukraine’s defense industry is undergoing a wartime transformation, evolving from dependency on foreign arms into a rapidly expanding domestic production powerhouse. What began after Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea has now become a full-scale reindustrialization effort, backed by major government programs and strategic partnerships. Today, Ukraine produces about 40% of its military needs, scaling key sectors like drones, missiles, armored vehicles, and NATO-standard artillery. The government’s "Weapon of Victory" program secures long-term contracts with national manufacturers, aiming for both military self-sufficiency and economic resilience. Systems like the Neptune missile, Ukrainian long-range drones, and frontline-proven armored vehicles highlight how local production is shifting battlefield dynamics. With new leadership at the Defense Ministry prioritizing a 50% share of Ukrainian-made arms on the front, Ukraine is moving decisively to secure both its defense and industrial sovereignty.
