The frontline in eastern Ukraine has evolved into an environment where endurance, logistics, and concealment matter as much as firepower. As drones dominate the battlespace, even holding a few meters of ground now requires constant adaptation to permanent aerial surveillance. Positions are no longer sustained by traditional supply routes or rotations, but by improvised systems designed to survive under uninterrupted observation. In this reality, individual strongpoints can become strategically important simply because abandoning them would unravel neighboring defenses. The human cost of maintaining such positions is enormous, pushing soldiers to the physical and psychological limits of what prolonged combat allows. What follows illustrates how modern defensive warfare forces soldiers and commanders alike to rethink how territory is held when the sky is never empty.
