Ukrainians conduct a successful multi-stage assault on Dnipro islands
The fight along the Kherson direction is increasingly defined by control of space rather than outright occupation of terrain. River islands, once seen as marginal features, have become key enablers of pressure, surveillance, and intimidation against civilian areas. For Russian forces, holding these positions offered a way to project power without committing to a costly river crossing. For Ukraine, they represented a persistent source of threat that could not be neutralized through conventional assaults. This has pushed the conflict toward a methodical contest over logistics, command nodes, and freedom of movement rather than direct clashes. Against this backdrop, the balance on the Dnipro is shifting toward whoever can make isolated positions untenable rather than merely contested.
